Bauer Media Group realigns digital publishing business to strengthen long-term growth

Hamburg/London, 14 April 2026 – Bauer Media Group today announced a strategic realignment of its digital publishing business, adapting its structures to changing market conditions and positioning its publishing activities for sustainable long-term success.

Publishing remains a strong and leading business for Bauer Media Group. As Europe’s largest magazine publisher, the company continues to shape the future of the industry, building on a powerful combination of a resilient print business combined with digital business models.

The realignment follows a comprehensive strategic review of digital publishing activities across markets, aimed at creating a more focused, efficient and economically sustainable setup.

Responding to structural market changes
In recent years, the digital publishing environment has changed significantly. Technological disruption, particularly the rapid rise of AI, is reshaping how audiences access content, with users increasingly receiving answers directly via platforms rather than visiting publisher websites.

At the same time, platform dynamics, user behaviour and monetisation models are evolving. Advertising markets remain under pressure, while affiliate and commerce models are becoming more competitive and fragmented. As a result, it has become increasingly challenging to operate digital publishing businesses profitably at scale.

In response, Bauer Media Group is proposing to restructure its digital publishing business — integrating digital activities more closely into existing publishing structures and enabling a sharper focus on their portfolio and improved long-term profitability.

A more focused and integrated approach across markets
As part of the new approach, Bauer Media Group will simplify its digital portfolio and align digital publishing activities more closely with its core publishing organisations.

In Germany, digital publishing activities will be streamlined and focused on a defined set of core brands: Lecker.de, TVmovie.de and Astrowoche.de. As part of this transition, Bauer Media will discontinue its current digital infrastructure, including closure of the standalone digital company Bauer Xcel Media Deutschland KG, which will cease operations as of 30 September 2026. Going forward, remaining digital publishing activities in Germany will be fully integrated into the publishing organisation.

In the UK, Bauer Media Group is proposing to restructure its digital publishing business — integrating digital activities more closely into existing publishing structures and enabling a sharper focus on their portfolio.

Supporting employees through transition
Bauer Media Group recognises that these changes will impact employees in certain areas of the business. The company is committed to managing this transition in a responsible, transparent and respectful manner, while creating new opportunities in areas aligned with its future focus.

Positioning for long-term success
The realignment represents a clear step towards a more focused and economically sustainable digital publishing business. It is designed to strengthen profitability, improve operational efficiency and align the business more closely with current market realities.

Publishing will continue to play a key role within Bauer Media Group, combining strong print foundations with a more targeted and disciplined digital portfolio.

At the same time, the company remains open to future digital opportunities and will continue to invest where sustainable growth potential exists.

Ingo Klinge, President Global Publishing, said: “Our ambition remains unchanged: to strengthen our leadership position in publishing — delivering meaningful value to the audiences we serve — while ensuring long-term success in a rapidly evolving market environment.”
