Carsten Schicker to leave Bauer Media Group – Peter Brimacombe to take over as Head of Group Strategy

Hamburg, October 14, 2022 – Carsten Schicker, Head of Group Strategy, has decided to leave Bauer Media Group in mid-November after five successful years. Peter Brimacombe will be taking on the role as Head of Group Strategy on an interim basis, in addition to his current position as Group Head of M&A.

Carsten Schicker joined Bauer in early 2018 as the Group’s first Head of Strategy. His mission was to position the company for the future against the backdrop of declining consumer magazine markets. Drawing on his extensive experience as a consultant with McKinsey and strategist at Bertelsmann, Carsten has been one of the key drivers of Bauer Media Group’s transformation into a multinational and multi-business company. During the same period, the Group refocused on its traditional European core markets.

As a result, the Group is now much more independent of the development of certain markets and thus much more resilient, particularly in times of macroeconomic uncertainty. Working with him has been a huge pleasure and I thank him for the past five years. I wish him all the very best in his next endeavours."

Due to differing views on the further development of the strategy, Carsten Schicker will pursue new opportunities outside of Bauer Media Group. He says: “I am very grateful to Yvonne Bauer for giving me the opportunity to play a major role in shaping the development of her company.”

Peter will take over as Head of Group Strategy initially on an interim basis and will report to Chief Operating Officer Paul Keenan, who says: “Since joining Bauer in 2017, Peter has played a key role in developing and delivering a strategic Group-wide M&A programme to support Bauer’s transformation. He is a huge asset to the team.”

Peter comments on his appointment: “I very much look forward to building on the solid foundations that have been laid for the company’s strategic directions, together with the talented strategy team here at Bauer.” Prior to joining Bauer Media Group, Peter held senior level positions with companies including Viacom, The Walt Disney Company and RTL Group.
