Bauer Media Audio agrees to acquire iRadio

Hamburg/Dublin, August 16, 2023: Bauer Media Audio has today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire iRadio – a leading youth music station serving listeners in the West, North West, North East & Midlands regions of Ireland. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approval. With this deal, Bauer Media Audio now reaches more than 61 million listeners across 9 countries every week.

iRadio is one of Ireland’s leading youth music brands, being the most listened to station in the 15 to 44 demographics across its 15 broadcast counties.

Since entering Ireland back in 2021, Bauer Media Audio has been at the forefront of driving growth within the country’s audio and radio sector, setting new standards for advertisers and listeners alike. Today FM, Newstalk and SPIN have all set highs for listenership under Bauer ownership, as well as being recognised at the annual IMRO Radio Awards for their successes. The business has also invested in audioXi – Ireland’s largest digital audio advertising exchange, and home to a number of innovative advertising formats.

Speaking on the transaction, Richard Dawkins, President of Audio, Bauer Media Group said “iRadio has built a loyal and dedicated following across the 15 counties in which it broadcasts, and will enhance Bauer Media Audio’s portfolio in Ireland. We look forward to welcoming iRadio to Bauer Media and providing additional innovation to support the station’s long-term growth, further deepening relationships with its listeners and commercial partners alike.”

Willie O’Reilly, Chairman at iRadio said “iRadio has grown to become the most popular radio station in its broadcast region keeping listeners across its fifteen counties informed and entertained. The board would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey for their contribution. iRadio is now ready to embark on a new chapter as part of Bauer Media Audio. Its best days lie ahead”
