A day in the life of...
Have you ever wondered what roles are represented at Bauer? Have you ever thought about how your "normal" day compares to the normal day of others? In our series "A day in the life of" we uncover what a typical day looks like for our employees in our four different Business Areas and markets.
In this edition, take a mental trip to the beautiful city of Krakow to spend the day with Pawel Pawlik, Bauer Poland's RMF Classic Programme Director, passionate photographer and keen cyclist.
Thanks for sharing your day with us, Pawel!

I have no issues with early starts....
I get up shortly before 5:00 a.m. I'm used to it and have no problem with it.
... and I get straight to business...
Show me someone who works in media who doesn't turn on their computer as soon as they wake up. I'm not original, I do it too!
Rain or shine, I ride my bike to work…
I love it, even though I have to go uphill in the morning to the old forts under Kościuszko Mound, where the RMF Group has its headquarters.
I pass by one of the most beautiful places in Krakow on my way to work…
... Błonia, a huge meadow in the city centre with a view of the Wawel Royal Castle. In summer I watch spectacular sunrises here. I usually stop here and take photos. Photography is my other passion, cycling too.
I head straight into the studio when I arrive at the radio station…
… and check the broadcast programme and playlist. We don't start the live programme with the DJ until 7:00 so I'm the first person who can spot any mistakes. Only then do I switch on my laptop and get down to business. I like this time when the phones aren't ringing yet.
My job is - to put it simply - listening to RMF Classic radio and checking if I can hear everything we have planned together with the team during the Teams meetings…
I usually like what I hear!
Planning is very important in my line of work…
… because radio is a medium that is hostage to time. Everything has to be right to the minute. You can't "stretch" time. An hour has 60 minutes and not a minute more, or less. In our jargon we call the schedule a 'clock'.
Our team is close-knit, even when we have to socially distance…
We have just 12 people in our team and some of them work in Warsaw. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we try to avoid direct contact, but we are a very close knit team. Here you can see a few of us in the studio, promoting a campaign to save endangered species.
I do a lot of desk work these days, but it wasn’t always so…
A long time ago I was a radio DJ and reporter myself, so whenever I get the chance - for example because someone needs to be replaced - I like to sit in front of a microphone and host a show. I must admit that it gives me a lot of fun.
I’m proud of my ability to programme music….
There are also times when I need to, for example, create a playlist for the next day using a tool known as ‘Selector’. Programming music is one of the skills I learnt at RMF Classic and I look proudly at the RCS certificate above my desk.
I eat lunch when I feel like it….
Luckily for me, lunch breaks are not scheduled for a specific time. At our headquarters, under Kościuszko Mound, there is a small restaurant where you can have lunch and in the summer you can also go to the bar on the viewing terrace. It's nice - eating lunch while looking down on Krakow.
I usually finish work around 5pm and go home...
The ride home is more pleasant than the ride to work because I start my journey going downhill. It also happens that after work I go for a short cycling trip around Krakow. I love routes along the Vistula river.
I ‘cheat’ on my favourite medium (radio) every night…
… by turning off the radio and watching home cinema on the TV instead. After all, I have to watch all these great films and TV series to hear the music that's later played on RMF Classic. It's also my inspiration to get back to the radio in the morning!
But it’s usually hard for me to cheat for long…
Sometimes I fall asleep before the end of the film I'm watching, usually around 10 p.m. But I can always finish it tomorrow...
