A day in the life of...

Have you ever wondered what roles are represented at Bauer? Have you ever thought about how your "normal" day compares to the normal day of others? In our series "A day in the life of" we uncover what a typical day looks like for our employees in our four different Business Areas and markets.

In this edition, take a mental trip to Paris to spend the day with Karin Coquin, Artistic Director for Bauer Media France.

Thanks for sharing your day with us, Karine!

...Karine Coquin

I wake up at 7am each morning, to appreciate the quietness of Paris…

...My daily starter is a squeezed lemon juice with green tea to detoxify.

To arrive at the office at 9 am, I cross Paris by electric bike, which gives me half an hour of contemplation - the Opera Garnier, the Louvre Museum and the Seine river are passing by before my eyes.

I really enjoy and appreciate everything!

The morning is when I am most creative…

… So I start my working day designing magazine covers or new pages.

Every Monday, I debrief and distribute tasks to my team.

I always look forward to the 10:30am coffee break…

… for me it’s a short espresso which I drink with my colleagues in the break room. It’s a very friendly moment, because everyone has something to tell, either personal or work.

For lunch, I often eat with my colleagues…

… otherwise I do sports once or twice a week. This keeps me in shape and reboots me more than ever!

My day is filled with a variety of tasks…

… it’s split between sharing thoughts on magazine layouts with my team, and giving the greenlight to key artistic topics of the magazines, like fashion and beauty.

I’m also involved in editorial or iconography meetings with the Editors in Chief, as well as signing off magazine pages before they are sent to the printer.

I’m a planner…

…To avoid stress or an error, I anticipate and respect the production schedules, vigilance is crucial! As I am a multi-tasker, I feel like my days are very exciting and my work is valued.

I usually leave the office around 7pm…

… my bike takes me home, while I relax on the way. I feel so lucky to live in Paris and to be able to enjoy the culture of a European capital.

I draw to unwind…

… My favourite activity is my weekly drawing lesson at the Musée d’Orsay. Drawing is my passion above everything else, it relaxes me and allows me to clear my mind and to focus on the essential.
