A day in the life of...

Have you ever wondered what roles are represented at Bauer? Have you ever thought about how your "normal" day compares to the normal day of others? In our series "A day in the life of" we uncover what a typical day looks like for our employees in our four different Business Areas and markets.

In this edition we take a mental trip to Germany to spend the day with Andrea Treffenstaedt, Bauer Media Germany's Research Data Manager.

A day in the life of Andrea Treffenstaedt

Bauer Media Germany's Research Data Manager

I am an early riser...
...I’m up at 5am most mornings. I drink coffee and read the news, then most mornings I do an hour of indoor walking (walk@home). Usually, I would then head to the train station to commute to work, but these days, I just head to my study.

I follow the Kanban method…
...every morning I check my Kanban board and see what’s to be done. For those who aren’t familiar with the Kanban method, it’s an agile method of self-management. Basically, you have a board on which all of your tasks are noted in different categories. Every morning you choose the tasks you want to or need to accomplish that day, based on your time needs, priority, and obligations.

A large part of my workday is spent in online conferences...
...I’m a market researcher and mostly work on big market-media analysis. In this role, I sit on many committees and make sure the surveys are properly done. I am responsible for pulling together Bauer’s reader data from big market media surveys and presenting it to senior management. This data is largely used to drive advertising sales.

I’m a proud cat mama!
...my cats keep me company, now that I’m working from home. And every now and then Max the cat poses in front of the camera during a conference – to tell me they want to go outside or are hungry. I miss my colleagues, but Max and Moritz – his brother – help me not to feel lonely – and my co-workers always get a good laugh at cat mama!

I love the wide range of people I get to meet in my role...
...since I work on quite a few committees all over the publishing industry I get to meet lots of great colleagues from other companies. All their knowledge is amazing.

I take great pride in what I do...
...I was part of designing the ‘best for planning’ – the biggest and most successful market-media Insights study in Germany, and I still love that “baby”.

Lunch is my first meal of the day...
...I always make time for lunch at noon. If the weather is nice, I go for a short walk at lunchtime. When we were working in the office, my team would go out for lunch together and my favourite thing to eat was Thai food. Nowadays I tend to go for eggs, vegetables or salad…and always a green smoothie.

I recently got into online gaming...
...since lockdown, I have taken to seeing friends via Teams. I now have a Doppelkopf-Team (it’s a card game) and we play online regularly. So, when I sign off work at 6pm, I will either join my team online or get busy with some crafts.

Knitting or quilting is my way to unwind...
...I’m very much into crafting – with me it is Netflix and knit in the evenings. I’m usually in bed by 10 p.m. Since I get up at 5, I can’t keep my eyes open much longer than that.

I never lack inspiration to get up and do it all over again in the morning...
...I’m a very energetic person – I couldn’t live without interesting challenges. This is what my job provides every day – and I love it.
