Bauer Media Group expands its Premium Magazine Portfolio
Zug/Munich/Hamburg - The German premium magazines COSMOPOLITAN, JOY and SHAPE will be published in the future by Bauer. The respective contract was signed today between the Bauer Media Group and the founder and owner of Marquard Media, Jürg Marquard.
Yvonne Bauer, owner of Bauer Media Group, is breaking new ground with this move, putting Bauer Media Group directly into a strong position in the premium magazine market. Alongside the Bauer Media Group’s strong, circulation-driven portfolio comes the expansion into the lifestyle and luxury segment with it’s vast potential in advertising revenues. “This transaction opens up new commercial and distribution channels for us with fantastic brands in both the print and digital sectors” says Yvonne Bauer. “We look forward to our cooperation with this successful and committed team in Munich, lead by the Managing Director Waltraut von Mengden.
The agreement encompasses the take-over by Bauer Media Group of the German language magazines as well as their associated online activities. The transaction includes 100 percent of German Premium Magazines AG, seated in Zug, Switzerland, as well as 100 percent of MVG Medien Verlagsgesellschaft mbh&Co, seated in Munich, Germany. The acquisition is conditional to the approval of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission. Both contracting parties have agreed to be bound by secrecy over the acquisition price.
With COSMOPOLITAN Bauer Media Group takes over the German edition of the biggest worldwide women’s magazine. The magazine has been highly successful in the German market for over 30 years and attracts sophisticated, discerning, career women with high disposable incomes.
JOY, the international trend magazine will expand the company’s portfolio for modern, dynamic, beauty and fashioned oriented women. The acquisition also includes the complete international JOY licensing business. JOY is currently published in 13 countries.
With SHAPE, the fitness and wellness title, the portfolio gains an international lifestyle magazine, which appeals to active, body-conscious women.

Jürg Marquard retains possession of 100 percent of Marquard Media International in Zug, which owns 95 percent of the listed company Computec Media AG, Fürth, 100 percent of Marquard Media Poland and Marquard Media Hungary, as well as 50 percent of Hearst Marquard Publishing Poland.
