Bauer Media Group brings Europe’s top-selling people magazine to Germany

Near, nearer – Closer! People journalism of the next generation ! People-Journalismus der nächsten Generation! On 22 February the Bauer Media Group will launch a new weekly magazine concept.

Starting now, Closer, Europe’s most successful people magazine is going on sale in Germany. The magazine concept is based on the title launched with great success in the UK in 2002. Closer is now market leader in Britain and France.

It has a unique concept. It brings the German TV stars who really matter together with moving real-life stories and the best advice columns.

Closer brings the very latest in people journalism to women between the ages of 20 and 49 who are interested in TV. There is a clear focus on national stars.

As the only German people magazine, Closer will come out on Wednesdays, and not on Thursdays.

Closer has the highest claim to exclusivity. The editorial team takes a look behind the scenes and the true emotions behind the headlines. The best-known TV experts in Germany write for Closer. For example, DIY pro Tine Wittler will be advising readers on beautifying their homes. Readers with legal problems, meanwhile, can turn directly to TV judge Alexander Hold.

“With Closer we provide people journalism of the next generation. We serve the yearning for stars and heroes from boulevard TV that week for week move millions of people”, says Tom Junkersdorf, the magazine’s chief editor. “In looks and content, Closer offers the very latest in entertainment, clearly separating it from the competition.”

“The goal is to further expand the strong role of the Bauer Media Group in the people market. Innovative Closer will play a leading role in this”, says Verena Paschen, the magazine’s publishing director. “With another unique magazine concept to go with InTouch and Life&Style, we will further improve our positioning.”

Closer retails for 1.60 euros in a print run of 400,000.

The launch of the German issue is being supported by an extensive marketing campaign, including prints ads and TV spots. Top ad agency kempertrautmann Berlin is responsible for the campaign.
