Switch to Digital

The Bauer Media Group has placed a high priority on investment in digitalising its media brands. The aim is to further expand its international digital business activities.

The success of the Bauer Media Group is based on penetrating the mass market with strong print brands. The company is now using this core competence to advance the digitalisation of its media brands. Here, the focus is on the quality of journalistic content and its adaptation for use on the internet and on mobile devices.

Digital publishing
TV Movie is a good example of taking a successful print brand to the next step. With three print magazines, two online products and numerous applications for mobile devices, TV Movie is the leading crossmedia brand in Germany.

The TV Movie app is now found on more than one million iPhones and more than 200,000 iPads. The millionth iPhone app was installed in early November.

TV Movie has been reviewed more than 10,000 times at the Apple Store and, with 4.5 out of 5 stars, it is clearly a users’ favourite. Moreover, the TV Movie app has now enjoyed several weeks among the top ten most downloaded apps in the category “Entertainment” for both the iPhone and the iPad. This popularity is also reflected in the large number of active users: nearly 70 per cent of users actively use TV Movie every month from their mobile device (nearly 700,000 unique requests in the month of October).

Building upon its experience with and the success of TV Movie, the Bauer Media Group will adapt all of its main print products in the relevant international markets for use on mobile tablets.

Augmented reality
Augmented reality combines the advantages of Print and Mobile and the Bauer Media Group is the front runner in this field. As an editorial added benefit for readers, augmented reality is set to become the standard in Bauer Media Group magazines in future. Magazines like Welt der Wunder, TV Movie, BRAVO, Maxi, InTouch and Life&Style already offer their readers this additional mobile content in every issue and report up to 100,000 downloads per issue.

While relevant to the readership market, this topic is also interesting for advertising customers. This is why the Bauer Media Group offers advertising customers effective added benefits through the expansion of ads with interactive content via the Ad+View app.

Growth through M&A
The Bauer Media Group sees the European market, in particular, as offering further growth potential in the Digital segment and intends to intensify its acquisition activities accordingly. The focus here is on media-related online products which will serve as ideal supplements to the company’s current range of products, such as the recent acquisitions in the UK of Horse Deals and ClassicCarsforSale.
