The Bauer Media Academy brings all educational activities of the media group under one roof
The newly launched Bauer Media Academy brings all educational activities and advanced training courses of the Bauer Media Group under one roof. Besides courses in commercial professions, combined study programmes and training, the traineeship programme and tutorials, conferences and workshops for entry-level attendees and media partners of Bauer Media KG, the new school of journalism will be an important part of the Bauer Media Academy.
The school of journalism will open its doors in July 2011 and start training and educating the next generation of young journalists for the Bauer Media Group. Over the space of 24 months, split into four terms, 20 students will receive well-founded training in theory and practice at the media group’s editorial offices in Hamburg, Munich, Rastatt and Magdeburg. The new school of journalism addresses university graduates, talented school leavers and career changers.
Each term includes four weeks of theoretical studies. The team of tutors is made up of chief and leading editors from the wide-ranging media genres represented in the Bauer Media Group and by renowned external consultants.
Practical training will take centre stage in the aspiring journalists’ curriculum with work in the editorial departments closely intermeshed with the seminars throughout the course. Each student will be assigned to an editorial department to learn about all stages of the daily work routine. Furthermore, students will complete four stays of two weeks each in other editorial departments (under the headings programming, people, youth, yellow, women and special interest) to also familiarise themselves with the work of online journalists and for a daily newspaper. At the end, they will have a complete picture of journalistic work and expertise.
Training and academic content will be overseen by a curatorship of five chief editors of the Bauer Media Group: Uwe Bokelmann (tv Hören und Sehen, tv14, Welt der Wunder, Happinez), Michael Heun (auf einen blick, TV klar), Ann Thorer (Maxi), Viola Wallmüller (Alles für die Frau, Laura, mach mal Pause) und Stefan Westendorp (TV Movie, tv pur, tv!top). All chief editors will contribute their broad experience and wide knowledge in the diverse areas of print journalism and will ensure that training is applied in practice.
“Investing in the next generation of journalists is an important part of our commitment to the journalistic quality of our portfolio that will enable us to face upcoming new challenges while retaining the ability to provide unique and innovative products. The education of young journalists is in fact an important tradition in the group and part of our entrepreneurial responsibility. The foundation of our own Bauer Media Academy is a consistent continuation of this tradition,” says publisher Yvonne Bauer. “Well-educated and committed employees in all areas of our media company have always been an important basis for the successful further development of our family business. And we will continue to require good journalists in the future.”
Tutorials, conferences and workshops for entry-level attendees and media partners of Bauer Media KG will be continued at the new Bauer Media Advertising Academy.
